Arriving by bus to the city of Colon, Panama’s commercial capital, our first stop is the UNESCO World Heritage site of Fort San Lorenzo (time permitting) on the banks of the Chagres River, where pirates led by Henry Morgan began their attack on the city of Panama.
The tour will include a visit to the Gatun Locks and an introduction to the operations of the Panama Canal, subject to the transit schedule of the Panama Canal.
After lunch at a restaurant in the city and a scenic tour of Colon, we return to Panama City aboard the Panama Canal Railway – the first interoceanic railroad and one of the main railway journeys in the world – for a picturesque ride through the Isthmus of Panama and its history.
